Humans of CP: Augie MacCurrach

In this month’s edition of Humans of CP, we are talking with Customer Portfolios Founder and CEO, Augie MacCurrach. Despite recently celebrating the company's 15-year anniversary, Augie and the team have not given up the start-up mentality. It’s Augie’s vision and passion that inspires CP to innovate daily and be a leader in the marketing technology and customer relationship landscape.

What do you do at Customer Portfolios?

I am the Founder and CEO. I provide the vision and leadership for our go-to-market strategies and product development. I also provide financial oversight to ensure we operate in a profitable manner. Currently, I am focused on refining our organization structure and processes to enable growth while maintaining the quality of our products and services.

What was your first business idea?

I knew I always wanted to run my own company, but the vision for CP did not take shape right away. As a kid, I fancied myself as an inventor. I would design and sketch out new board games and sports. One of the most memorable games was a version of roller-ball.

What is your favorite part about working at Customer Portfolios?

I am very proud of Customer Portfolios so almost everything, but let’s put the emphasis on our talented people working in our beautiful offices.

What are the top 3 skills necessary for being a successful entrepreneur?

  1. Vision
  2. Commitment
  3. Persistence

What is the biggest lesson you learned in business?

It’s important to surround yourself with the right people to keep you on track. For instance, while it’s imperative to have the right minds when it comes to product, it is equally important to have the financial and business mindset to balance out the visionaries.

If you could go back in time, what year would you travel to and why?

I have never been keen on the idea of going back in time, especially if it means reliving everything forward again.  If I were to go back for a visit and then return to here and now, then I would either pick being in Philadelphia for the signing of the Declaration of Independence or being in Times Square on VE Day.

What is the first thing you would buy if you won the lottery?

You didn’t specify the size of the lottery winnings, there is a big difference between $1MM, $10MM or $100MM.  Therefore, just for fun, I am going to say a brand new 2017 Dodge Challenger Orange with custom Purple racing stripes.

If you could give your past self some advice, what would you tell yourself?

Again, I hate the thought of going backwards. I am only halfway through this life.  I want to save my chance to educate my past self until I am 99.9% finish with this life. I am still learning. The one thing I am sure of is my marriage. Self. Yes self.  Don’t drag your feet, marry Elizabeth as quickly as possible. Elizabeth who? Don’t worry; you’ll know when you meet her.  Okay sure.

That's it for now. Stay tuned for next month's Humans of CP blog post.
